Robert Andrew Romero
"PACO"

When Andrew lived in St. Louis he was a base guitarist for a wicked little punk rock band called "This Strange Device". They played a few local clubs and eventually had the opportunity to open for The Urge. This gave them the opportunity to play for a couple of thousand people. Things didn't go as well as they had expected and they weren't well received.
Now this isn't my generations music so whether it was good or bad, I couldn't say. But what I can tell you is that he had the time of his life. Prior to the performance the band had set up a website and the majority of hits to the website came from girlfriends and family members. Andrew called me the next day after the concert. He was so excited about all the hits to their website that came in after the concert. I laughed and laughed as he proudly read me each of the comments. Comments like "You guys suck" - "You guys ought to die" - "Worst band I ever heard" and on and on.
He was so happy and I said something about the negative feedback and he said it didn't matter to him. What mattered to him was that those people took the time to locate the website and leave a comment.
That was Andrew...that was Paco. It was all good. Even when it was bad it was all good.

Okay, now I've got stories. Paco looks in this picture like my friend Mario who is a fine musician and plays in a tribute band (Fleetwood Mac). When we were kids in our twenties, Mario and I and another guy named Roger all worked on the sidewalk crew for the city of North Vancouver. We used to listen to the radio as we worked. Roger and Mario being musicians and veterans of bands said they could do as well as the stuff they were hearing on the radio. So I said fine, I'll write the songs. So we made a record played around town and fizzled. At about the same time Bryan Adams who went to school with my brother and worked at a local burger joint was starting to catch on. We gave him our record and he pitched it in the garbage in front of everybody. Loverboy who basically were the sidewalk crew from Burnaby were taking off. I went to high school with the guys from Prism.

Ron - What great stories -

After Andrew's funeral there was a lunch and I sat and listened to Andrew's friends tell a lot of stories about the things they did. Some of them I almost wish I hadn't heard but one thing about it, he lived to the fullest while he was here.

Thanks for visiting!

Michele, you never had a chance to really get to know him. He was so funny and so excited about life. To him it was just cool that people visited the webite even if it was to complain.
